Description

Greater Knapweed (Centaurea scabiosa)

A favourite flower of bees, butterflies and birds, this lovely robust perennial wildflower produces large, feathery, pink (occasionally white) flowers. Found in the wild around the east and north coasts of Scotland in dry grassland and on cliffs. It flowers throughout summer on stems up to 1m tall.

Sowing:  Can be sown at any time  of year but best in early autumn or in spring. Sow in trays or pots of moist compost and transplant to an open, sunny site with light soil, or scatter the seed directly onto a fine-raked seed bed, firming down well. Water well and keep young plants weeded.
