Why grow wildflowers?

Growing native wildflower species from seed can create and improve habitats for insect, bird and mammal life. These plants will encourage a range of butterflies, moths, bumble-bees and other insects, as well as the birds and bats that feed on these insects. The wildflowers themselves are beautiful and will add colour, shape and scent to your garden or meadow as well as providing an environment rich in biodiversity.

What we can do for you...
Our Scottish wildflower seeds can be bought as individual seed packets to be used by gardeners for single species plantings or you can buy meadow mixes for meadows from a few metres to a few hectares in size.

Scotia Seeds' range of Scottish wildflower species seed packets include 40 different species including the rare and beautiful Scottish Primrose, found only in Scotland and now increasingly rare in the wild. We also can supply seed of fascinating and little known Scottish wildflowers such as Yellow Rattle which can be used to improve meadows.
To create your own meadow we produce a range of carefully selected combinations of flowering plant and grass seed as meadow mixes to create a species rich grassland. We can also make up particular meadow mixtures to suit a particular meadow site or habitat need.

Individual species

Our seed packets can be bought directly from Scotia Seeds by mail order or at many quality retailers including National Trust for Scotland and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh shops.

We have also produced custom designed seed packets for promotions by conservation organizations. Contact us for details.

Meadow mixes

We produce meadow mixtures for all sizes of meadow sites, from a gardening project designed to improve a small habitat for birds, bees, butterflies and other insects to large landscaping meadow projects including the restoration of environments around road building projects and even producing a meadow mixture for use on the Scottish Parliament Building .
We specialize in developing meadow mixtures for agri-environment and land management schemes such as the Rural Stewardship Scheme - we base meadow mixtures on the requirements of the Rural Stewardship Scheme so that participants can plant a species rich grassland that will expand the biodiversity of their site and its value for conservation, so much a part of land management these days. We also tailor meadow mixtures to a specific site or for the needs of a specific species. For larger projects we can visit the potential meadow site if appropriate. We are also very interested to hear from trade enquiries for both seed packets and seeds in bulk. If you browse our site you can find out more about individual Scottish species, about our seed packets, meadow mixtures, meadow management , including the use of Yellow Rattle and about Scotia Seeds in general. We have a newsletter that will keep you up to date and we are always delighted to hear from you.
